The rain is off (for now) and the show is on
Crews prep for tonight's Park Playhouse performance.
Crews are mopping up at Park Playhouse to prep for tonight's performance of West Side Story (the last two performances were rained out). And in spite of the heat and damp grass, audience members are already claiming their seats. If it's still a little wet out for your taste, you can catch a free performance Tuesdays through Sundays until August 17th.

Can someone who has been to this help me? I am trying to reserve tickets online and I thought the show was free, but it's coming up as $14 per ticket. ???

@Kim--There is a charge for the reserved seats up front. The bleacher style seats are free, but they're first come first serve. Have someone bring a blanket or lawn chair and stake out a good seat early. It fills up fast.

I'm curious about opinions on this show. Among other things, the sound on Saturday night (8/9) was as bad as described in this mostly positive Gazette review: http://www.dailygazette.com/news/2008/jul/09/0709_westside/
That said, there were other issues: the transition from the end of Act 1 to the "pitch" was abrupt, to say the least. The pitch of a leading character's singing was off. Definitely enjoyed Guys and Dolls by the PP2 more.

Rog -- I've been holding off until closing week hoping that some of issues reported by friends who saw West Side Story early on will have dissipated.
Sounds like they haven't.
Now, it's the countdown -- time to find a dry evening between today and Sunday when I'm free to grab a couple of blankets, find a spot on the house left side of hill (I never get there hours early to scout out a seat on the bleachers), and think to myself, "This is an Equity cast?? Maybe I'm not as bad a singer as I thought!" Really, I do love Park Playhouse -- free outdoor theatre in the summer, in a beautiful park, that I can WALK to from home... can't beat that!
