A peek at Client 9, the Eliot Spitzer documentary
Daniel emailed us this weekend after noticing that Client 9, the documentary about Eliot Spitzer is now available on demand on Time Warner Cable. (It debuts in theaters November 5.) He said he jumped at the chance to watch it.
He was also nice enough to send along a quick recap of the doc, focusing on the parts involving Albany. As he notes: "Some of this might be considered a spoiler about the movie, even though we all know how it ends." Right, the spitzering.
On to Daniel's quick overview...
I must say off the bat, as a fan of Albany, this would be a movie you want to see. While it is heavily based on activity in NYC there is a good section half way through the movie that features Albany. It even goes in great detail about the gargoyles that are carved into the State Capitol building. Fred Dicker, and Joe Bruno are featured a great deal through out the movie. There is even mention of Jim Tedisco.
The director works the movie as the rise of Spitzer and the rise of the Emperors Club at the same time, then both on track for a collision. Most of the movie seemed to be based on Spitzer's role as Attorney General and his fight with Wall Street. The Albany Times Union gets a lot of attention and it is mentioned, in not so uncertain terms that the indictment of the Emperors Club was given directly to someone at the Times Union and telling them to find out who Client 9 is.
Without spoiling too much more, I just wanted to say from a New York, and Albany resident stand point it is a very intriguing movie that is well worth it.

The film is also showing this Friday night at the FilmColumbia Festival in Chatham. The show is at 7:30 pm and will be followed by a panel discussion featuring Director Alex Gibney, WAMC's Alan Chartock and author Lloyd Constantine.
