A good plumber?

plumbing drain trapWith what we can only guess is the sound of running water in the background, Chrissy emails:

Does anyone know a good/trustworthy plumber in the Schenectady area or one is Albany that will travel a bit?
I have 2 toilets that are running constantly, a broken faucet, and a crappy old sink that needs replacing. After a crazy high water bill I am finally going to stop procrastinating about it but I don't really want to just pick a name from the yellow pages. The last time I did that I got a drunk Jerry Garcia look-alike that told me the reason my water suddenly smelled like rotting garbage was because I live in Scotia. Not entirely untrue, but I need someone with a more scientific? approach to plumbing problems. Any recommendations?

We called Crisafulli for an acute plumbing problem (broken pipe) awhile back. They responded promptly and fixed the problem, at what seemed like a fair price.

But there are a lot of plumbers out there. Know of a good one for Chrissy? Please share!

I can recommend Farrell Brothers- they'll do a fine job. Not the cheapest, but they're worth every penny.

Ehh I'd stay away from Crisafulli. Dealt with them a few times, didn't end too well.

Call up Frank Cosmo or RotoMatic.

A lot of folks I know seem happy with Dwight H&P in Rensselaer, though I've never personally used them. We use Taub, and their service is prompt and fair. We recently had a new furnace installed by Crisafulli, and they did a fine job at a good price with an excellent warranty, but I've never used them for straight plumbing. For drain cleaning, we've used Apex several times, and highly recommend them

Chris Collins--

I have used him a lot.

Chris Collins, definitely! I use him and my daughter uses him.

On the other hand, there's nothing there you couldn't solve yourself with some advice from your local hardware store, for a fifth the cost of bringing a plumber in.

Thanks for all the suggestions! As for doing it myself that is impossible as I am the least handy person on the planet :-)

I'd stay away from crisafulli too-minor plumbing work from them costs and arm and a leg.
honestly you can fix your running toilets by purchasing two toilet flappers @ HD or lowes..that's usually the culprit for running toilets. Those'll set you back a whopping couple of bucks and if you know how to text you can do that--it's EZ.
I'd suggest Frank Casimo also but good luck getting him to return your call!

joe brannigan is good , rerturns calls, and reasonable.mike mazone is also good. ask prices in advance for anyone.

I have two windows whose sills need replacing. If anyone knows of a good contractor, email rzitowsk@yahoo.com. Put "Good Contractor" in the subject line. Thank you for your help.

Express Rooter is amazing. They fixed a bizarre leak in plumbing going to my refrigerator - the ice maker was connected through an old washer/dryer hookup. The cost was beyond reasonable, even though they were there for hours. It was under $100 and the ice maker works much better.

Chris Collins does fantastic work. He did a water heater and a couple other things for me and it was all spot on. Very respectful of the home too and cleaned up after himself and his crew.

Thank you for the reference of Chris Collins Plumbing.
They were fantastic, organized, and very reasonably priced.
I would refer these guys to anyone- hands down!

On October 25,2011, Chris and his brother Matt replaced my propane powervent hot water tank with an electric one.
Due to an unforseen problem, I had to call in my
electrician. This added about a two and a half hour delay for Chris and Matt, which they could have charged charged me for. But, didn't. Which I reallyi
appreciated.

They are really and, I mean really "nice guys"
and do an excellent job! I recommend them highly!

I called and left a message with Chris Collins to have some plumbing work done, but I got no response back even after a week. Guess he got so many good referrals from this post that he doesn't need the money anymore!

Guess I gotta call Crisafulli, hopefully they'll want to take my money.

We have used Decker Plumbing for years. Bill Sr. & Jr. do very competent work. They're based in Albany on Spring St., but I bet they travel to Schenectady, and they're responsive. Good luck!
