What's up in the Neighborhood

The NeighborhoodAmong the topics in this most recent spin around the Capital Region's online neighborhood: Lark Street, wildfire, superlatives, yards, hair, the Graveyard Challenge, ice cream, pusties, dining alone, Easter pie, Lebanese food, out of control quantity, secrets, and Angry Birds.

Silvia enjoyed a sunny day on Lark Street.

Jackie came across a wildfire in Skidmore's North Woods.

Daniel B considered what it means for something to be "the best."

Kristi asked for ideas about finding an affordable yard cleanup service.

Kevin raised $1,100 for cancer research by shaving off his hair.

Jerry took the Graveyard Challenge at Wagon Train BBQ.

Jen had fun at the Tour de Soft Serve.

Mr. Dave enjoyed a pustie -- a treat from the Utica/Rome area.

Carey dined in Saratoga with "just the right amount of company."

One of Steve's readers asked about where to find Easter pie.

Albany Jane went to All Good Bakers' new storefront on opening day.

Leah the Nosher was "utterly swept away" at Phoenicians.

C2C says the quantity at Van's is "out of control."

Rochelle was unhappy with the quantity of an unexpected ingredient in her summer rolls from Van's.

Elizabeth "strongly" recommends stopping by the Battenkill Valley Creamery for a scoop of ice cream.

If you see Rob sitting in his car borrowing wifi he's just... looking up recipes.

Chuck took photos with 50-year-old film... and it worked.

Albaniana says Albany's best kept secret is...

And the Exiles' son got an Angry Birds cake for his birthday.

Thanks for the link, AoA!

Maybe the extra exposure will bring forward a challenger who can actually complete The Graveyard Challenge.

That post has been retweeted and re-linked to everyone from Gizmodo to Popular Photo, but that doesn't means squat until it gets listed in the AOA Neighborhood! Thanks Mary and Greg!

I made the same comment over there, but my experiences with Phoenicians have been odd. I had one really great meal there, then brought my parents there when they were in town since neither of them had ever tried Lebanese food before. We got piles of sort of mediocre food, and I doubt they'll be interested in trying it again.

Thanks for highlighting my story about the fire in Skidmore's woods, except that when I clicked on the link it sent me to someone else's blog called Keyboard Krums and a post about food porn. Interesting blog, but no story about a forest fire there. Folks can find Jackie's blog at saratogawoodswaters.blogspot.com

Editors: Sorry about that. We just pasted the wrong lInk. It's fixed now. Thanks.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

... the Helderberg neighborhood is fabulous for Trick or Treating, maybe too much so. We always see families coming from other parts of Albany by the van load - being dropped off at one end and working their way to the other. Lots of houses in friendly neighborhoods = a packed and good time. It is also rumored that a few adults dress up and roam the streets handing out adult beverages to other adults. Again, just a rumor...
