Way down under

The antipode of Albany.

Coincidental geographic fact of the day: the closest city to the exact opposite side of the world from Albany, New York is... Albany, Western Australia.

A few bits about the down under Albany:
+ The city was founded in 1827.
+ The surrounding area has been home to the Noongar people for thousands of years.
+ The first Europeans to swing through the area were aboard a Dutch ship called Gulden Zeepaert (Golden Seahorse) in 1626.
+ Albany's population is now about 35,000.
+ It enjoys "soft winters and mild, sparkling summers."

They also have an oldies station that can be picked up on streaming audio, it's called Gold MX, and during the day it's nearly commercial free - as long as you don't mind jingle-packed commercials every hour on the hour for Fridge and Washer City ("Fridge and Washer City are the specialists!") or Harvey Norman Electronics "Go Harvey Norman, GO!!"). Oh well. At the same time there's probably some larrikin camped out at the beach, listening to a streaming audio station from far away and wondering who this Billy Fucillo is and why everything he sells is so huge.

I wish WE had soft winters and mild, sparkling summers! Can I switch Albanys?

Looks like they have their very own Esperance just down the road, too!

Did you know? - There are more sheep in Australia than there are people.

What are the chances I can get the AOA/Sunmark $1500 grant for an Albany, Australia - Albany, USA exhange program (where of ocurse, I am the only thing exchanged)? Wait, how much does it cost to get there?

Quick! Let's build a 787 to block them off from their waterfront too!

Perhaps this would be the Antipodean equivalent of AOA:

Your opinion on bagel toasting is what makes me confidant that you are legit. Ever since Uncle Ricky's Bagel Heaven in Troy closed shop, I've been hoping for a local source so that I no longer have to haul two dozen back to my freezer every time I visit the tri-state area (better than around here, but not as good as fresh)...
