dandelion seeds in a field

The word dandelion comes from the French "dent de lion" -- lion's tooth. Modern French has a rather different name for the weeds, though.

As it happens, all this rain has polled very well in the dandelion community.

Does anyone know a lawn service willing to tackle the insanity that is my lawn after this week of rain (that ideally won't cost an arm and a leg)? My eco friendly reel mower is just not going to cut it after all this - pun intended.

I've owned two copies of a book called Merde!: The Real French You Were Never Taught at School. Today I have neither: they were both borrowed and never returned. (Aside: I never heard my French-immigrant grandparents say "merde," it was something more like "shett!")

Anyhow, the most memorable citation in Merde! was "chaud-pisse," which means ... well, you can probably guess.

Lou, I have that book, though I have it on good authority that using 80% of the phrases will make you sound rather... quaint? Provincial? I believe the exact wording was "like a farmer".

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

It's a colossal social failure that starts with the breakdown of families and then circles back around to more breakdown of families. I've lived next to drop-outs, and I've seen firsthand the lack of parenting that sends the signal, passed from generation to generation. No magical teacher or administrator is going to reach down and counter that effect.
