Where to get a record player fixed?

record player needleSusan emails:

I have a broken record player that I would like to get repaired. It is one of those old school 70s types. Not sure where to go around here.

There was a question last year about places to get small appliances fixed -- and it sounds like Eric had success at Lake Electronics.

Got a suggestion for Susan and her record player? Please share!

i'd recommend the Stereo Workshop in Clifton Park on Rt.9. The owner, Ron, has alot of experience with a variety of brands. You can also call ahead with the brand and model number to see if this is something he can work on for you.

An old school 70s type record player should be simple enough to fix yourself. The Internet is your friend.

Dalbec Audio in Troy is great. Much better labor rates than Lake and they really stand by their work.

They're still making record players, now with USB cables added for people who want to convert vinyl to MP3, and you can probably get a pretty nice one for less than it would cost to repair your old turntable. Check out amazon.com.

Re: Rob
I wish I could share your opinion of Stereo Workshop. I brought my turntable there and they soldered some connections in my cartridge, rendering it useless.
I know others who have had similar experiences. Its a shame, since they seem to be the only game left in town.
The only other real option I know of is mail order. If you're up for the drive though, there is a great place in Binghamton of all places (home of McIntosh though).

Last Vestige on Quail St. in Albany sells parts if you know specifically what it is that needs fixing on the machine. They also have an incredible vinyl collection if you're looking for records to play on it once you do get it fixed.

These are the 3 places I visit often and all 3 have workers that are very helpful. If they cant fix it for whatever reason they will know who can.

It's a colossal social failure that starts with the breakdown of families and then circles back around to more breakdown of families. I've lived next to drop-outs, and I've seen firsthand the lack of parenting that sends the signal, passed from generation to generation. No magical teacher or administrator is going to reach down and counter that effect.
