In her State of the University address, SUNY chancellor Nancy Zimpher said "systemness" is the key to the higher education system's success. One result: SUNY will be regionalizing some administration tasks (like payroll) in an effort to save money. The pedestrian hit by a pickup truck on upper Washington Ave in Albany last month has died -- and police have yet to find the truck (map). [TU]
The 18-year-old driver of the pickup truck involved in the crash that killed a Ballston Spa High School student has been cited for a handful of violations -- including driving without a license. It's too bad for the bar. No matter what a bar bouncer, bar tender or any other try to do to filter out possible problems (underage, dress code, music selection) can stop what some people will do. Sometimes it's just the crowd attracted but if he did nothing to attract a bad crowd then what more can the owner do? It's tough for anyone.

I wonder how many of the accidents on Rt 9, witnessed by PJ's BBQ, were actually caused by people trying get into or out of PJ's parking lot.
I've been there many times and its quite a mess when traffic is heavy. People just jump right out or stop suddenly to turn in. They would probably benefit best from having a light at Kaydeross Ave/Rt 9, rather than lower the speed limit. It would effectively lower the speed near PJ's, and make it safer for vehicles exiting and entering the parking lot.

I've been very curious about this "witnesses shooting video" thing. It's a compelling story that speaks volumes about technology and citizenship. It's rather damning, really -- except I just don't know if I believe it.
Is there a timeline that verifies the relationship between when 911 was called and when bystanders started shooting video? The only proof seems to be that a college student claims the "authorities" told her this happened.
Can anybody shed some light on this?

I have been known to make up a word when I can't think of a perfect one, but another choice would be to use a thesaurus. Perhaps the SUNY Chancellor illustrated one of the problems with the system...
