Party space in Troy?

troy monument squareWill emails:

My father is trying to throw my fiance and I an engagement party, wedding is next year so we have time, and we're looking at Oct. So with the weather being uncertain we're trying to find a venue in Troy or nearby where we might rent a room or have it catered for less than a million bucks! Was hoping you could do one of your posts where you ask people for help? Any help is greatly appreciated.

For less than a million bucks, we're guessing Will has some options.

Got a suggestion? Please share! Bonus points for a few details about why the place could work.

I'd suggest the fine folks at Half Moon Hall. They have a beautiful space that they used to rent out--across from the Daily Grind.

Will is missing some details. What is the headcount, price range, and type of party that he wants. There are way too many venues.

I know this place is used for the wedding/formal party type events, and it it a very easy in and out (right off of the Green Island Bridge), plenty of parking around.

I am told it is a very beautiful place for a party like this.

Brown's has a private room upstairs, plus Rev Hall next door, depending on how many people you're talking about.

I recently attended a reception at the Illium Cafe, it was wonderful

2nd to Brown's/Rev Hall.

Sorry for missing details, maybe 50-75 people tops, budget not too sure, we would probably prefer something we could cater ourselves (dad is former caterer), but dont want a VFW Post.

The masonic lodge is Albany and the one in Troy (Route 2 across from Stewards) but have giant spaces with industrial kitchens.

Franklin Plaza is def nice - and maybe cheaper in Oct.

Daisy Baker's- They've got a nice vibe: classy, beautiful, and relaxed. I know a few people that have had parties there and they were very pleased.

Dino has a room they rent and caters.

Illium caters, you could ask about renting their back room.

Rev Hall/Browns- both solid options. I went to Rev Hall for a bridal shower and it was great.

Potentially too close to that million dollar mark?

Finnbar's, soon to open in the former Holmes and Watson. Don't know if they even have a phone yet so you could just stop in as they work on it!

I was going to suggest Revolution Hall as well - I recently went to a birthday party there, and it was a really fantastic space.

The Irish Mist (2nd St., just north of the bridge over the Postenkill) has a nice, fairly large banquet room behind the restaurant and bar. Probably significantly cheaper than Franklin Terrace or Brown's.

Revolution Hall - the interior is beautiful. Walls painted a nice & clean white with some beautiful paintings. Still a lot of architectural charm, though.

River Street Cafe hosted a very nice private party for about 30 people a few years ago.

Depending on the size, I would also recommend Illium Cafe. Chef Ortega is one of the area's more creative culinary minds.

Revolution Hall is a good choice, as it Daisy Bakers
Contemporary Arts Center http://www.cactroy.org
contact the Troy BID they may be able to suggest a gallery or "vacant store front" that might be avaliable for rent for such an event and open to outside catering.

irish mist is grrreat, except for the fact that it is where a lot of the brawls happen and shootings in downtown troy start, for what that is worth.

Just make sure you look out for hidden charges. We had a party at one of the venues mentioned above and found out after the fact that there was a mandatory minimum tip for the bar (even though this was in the back room and folks bought drinks and tipped at the bar--and the bartender was less than attentive). Won't do that again.

Talk about a business that's really exploded recently. I clicked on 30 or so of these, and only found a couple that have been around for longer than the past ten years! Here's hoping the next ten years are just as good for this business.
