ValleyCats open home season
The ValleyCats open their home season at Joe Bruno Stadium tonight with a game against the Vermont Lake Monsters. First pitch is 7 pm -- as of this afternoon there were just a few tickets left for "berm" seating.
The Cats' first game of the season was this past Monday at Vermont. They'll be home Wednesday and Thursday, before going to Connecticut a three game series for the weekend. Then they have a long home stand next week. The season runs through early September.
Tickets for the ValleyCats are relatively cheap -- as low as $5.50 if you buy ahead ($6.50 on game day). And as with all minor league teams, there are always a bunch of promotions and special nights. Example: This coming Monday (June 25) is the ever popular (with dogs, at least) Bark in the Park night. And next Wednesday is 50 cent hot dog night.
The ValleyCats are a short season Single-A level farm team for the Houston Astros. A bunch of players who have ended up in the majors have spent time on the time. A few names you might recognize: Hunter Pence (now with Philadelphia), and Ben Zobrist (now with Tampa Bay).
And, of course, the Cats' manager again this year is the one and only Stubby Clapp.
Joe at The Joe: As mentioned earlier, Joe Bruno will be throwing out the first pitch at Wednesday's game. [Biz Review]
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

The ValleyCats should hopefully be hosting some great players this season. The Astros had an excellent draft.

Valleycats are one of the best summertime things about this area.

Games are super kid-friendly! Most nights (unlike opening) have plenty of seating and you can walk around easily if you have a little one who has a short attention span. :)

I prefer the Albany Dutchmen and the PGCBL at Hoffman Park. Quality college players using wood bats and living off scraps. If you've been to a Cap Cod League game, it's the same deal.
