Central Steak closing

central steak exteriorThe local restaurant company White Management announced today Central Steak in Colonie is closing Tuesday. (Steve first reported the news.)

Said VP Brian White in a statement:

White Management has informed employees at Central Steak that the restaurant will be closing as of July 31, 2012. White Management is currently considering several options including new creative concepts for the Central Avenue restaurant.

Central Steak was born out of the former Butcher Block -- it was a more modern take on the concept. White owns a group of restaurants in the area, including Creo, Bountiful Bread, and Mangia.

We'll miss the winter harvest burger there. It was one of our favorite local burgers.

Update July 31: Gift cards

Statement from Brian White about Central Steak gift cards:

White Management intends to honor Central Steak gift cards at its other locations. On Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of this week, members of Central Steak's staff will be on-site at the restaurant to exchange Central Steak gift cards for gift cards at Creo. White Management is working with its Point of Sale vendor to create a seamless, longer-term solution to allow Central Steak patrons to dine at its sister establishments and will release details on the company's website - http://whiterestaurants.com/. We will also be working to place our staff at our sister locations.

White Management advertises on AOA.

Sad news to hear that Central Steak is closing. They did a great job remodeling the place and the food is terrific.

One day of notice to their employees? Stay classy White management.

What about Gift Certificates?

What? We didn't go there often, but when we did, it was always busy... Sounds fishy to me.

We're sad to learn this news. Our Sous Chef, Lauren, works there (or did) at night and really admires the the Chef, Devin. Seems quite a few factors impacted this decision. I hope WM gives a paid grace period to employees whose lives will most certainly be affected adversly by the abrupt closing/announcement.

That's too bad. We were just there for the Sam Adams beer dinner (thanks again AOA) and as I said at the time, the waitstaff there was absolutely top notch. Extremely personable and excellent service. I hope they find new positions soon.

They should have listened to their regular patrons and left the salad and soup bar alone. The remodel was attractive but the menu was not.
