A good accountant?

accounting ledgerWith an eye to the future, Ewan emails:

We're thinking that it might be good for at least one year to get some professional tax advice. Has anyone had a good experience with a local tax-oriented CPA?

Any suggestions for Ewan? Please share!

Disclaimer - I'm biased because they're my employer, but I don't make money on referrals, or anything, they're just a great group of accountants - Marvin and Company in Latham: www.marvincpa.com. Great group of people, completely willing to work with you on anything, quick turn-around time (and their admin staff's pretty awesome, too, or so I hear...) :)

We really like this one - a mother/daughter owned and operated business.

Colleen Campoli, CPA in Schen. Shes great!

I highly recommend Steve Constantine who is with Staff Ciampino and Company. www.staffciampino.com (Colvin Ave, Albany)

If your annual income is under $50,000, you can get free tax advice and guidance from IRS-certified volunteers through your local United Way. You can call 211 and they'll hook you up with a tax advice/preparation site.

I know a local banking executive who became a volunteer for this program just to learn more about doing her own taxes. They need about 300-400 volunteers each year--just sayin'.

Dave Wojeski at Wojeski & Co. in East Greenbush.

Mike Ryan from Slocum, Deangelis & Assoc. on Albany Shaker Road.

I am biased also as I used to work for him, but Dave Jordan of Jordan and Savoy CPA's on upper Hoosick St. in Troy is a very good accountant with a huge amount of experience.

How do you get these people to call you back? It's August, the started my taxes in March, file and extension in April and many, many phone calls have been unanswered. I've stopped into the office and last in person messages and I have called Dave's cell phone. My call are never answered and the mailbox is always full. ???
-extremely dissatisfied and disappointed.

Id stay away from Wojeski & Co. I was charged a premium price for incompetent work.

You pay someone at a firm like this for their expertise, My business was treated similar to purchasing fast food at a drive-thru.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
