GigSavers
New and possibly useful: GigSavers, a website that connects bands suddenly short a member with a temporary replacement.
Mark Delfs, the GigSavers creator, says he built site because his wife, Julie, is the leader of two bands (as well as a member of two others) in the area -- and she often has to scramble to find replacements ahead of a gig:
"So, I was thinking, why not have a central site that just gets all these musicians together that want to fill-in at these gigs? All the data in one place, easily searchable so she doesn't have to spend 2 hours on the phone looking for them. Even better, other bands can use it for the same thing--if they need an emergency player, they can contact us and we can blast one email out to the entire database that says 'Band X needs a trumpet player NOW!'"
Delfs says he wants to build the pool so that "nobody should have to sweat at the last minute when they lose a valuable player."
The site is free to join, and Delfs says the site managers screen the entries before they're posted.
