Short bio
Here's the scoop, my name is Kehmally, pronounced Kemily. I'm a soccer,rugby and track Mom. I currently work at Albany Medical College as a Licensed Practical Nurse and in my "free" time I enjoy making ice cream. To me these are two things in life (if done correctly) will make people smile.

A description of the proposed project
My love for making ice cream started about 5 years ago after helping my daughter with a school project. Part of the project required her to incorporate a "food" that went along with the state of Vermont. So of course we made our version of Ben & Jerry's Cherry Garcia. This is what spawned my desire to read all about Ben & Jerry's and to find out what ingredients they were leaving out in their cookbook. Did you know that Ben and Jerry took a course at Penn State on how to make ice cream??? I was beyond elated when I find out that Penn State still offered this course. In January of 2012 I was fortunate enough to experience this course first hand. I honestly can't wait to go back to take the longer course. Since then I've been critiquing and experimenting with bases, extracts, cookie doughs, flavors, textures etc. I've spent many hours searching eBay, Craigslist and even Facebook to find equipment and supplies required to start my own ice cream business. We are currently in the process of purchasing a building to not only put an ice cream shop in, but to live in as well. This will certainly save us on some overhead costs right off the bat. Unfortunately it's been over a year now since we put in our first bid. Whoever decided to call a "short" sale, a short sale, is sadly mistaken.

How would the grant money help?
If I were to receive this grant I'd put it towards the next steps of my start-up process, which would be insurance,permits,licenses, and possibly renting a kitchen. I recently filed my LLC,received my EIN number and created a facebook page. The name of my business is THE DUTCH UDDER ARTISANAL ICE CREAM. Some of my flavors include: Hop Cone,Sunday Brunch,Chocolate Malt, Vanilla Rum Raisin, Blueberry Muffin, Mint Oreo. We are also home brewers so we incorporate our brewing into our ice cream too,hence the Hop Cone! This is something that I am extremely passionate about and I'd love nothing more than to see my dream flourish and come to fruition.
