Stuff to do this weekend

This may actually be a fairly decent weekend to venture outdoors. It won't be sub zero, doesn't look like rain or snow, and there's even some stuff to do...

Looks like it'll be a nice evening for Art Night in Schenectady. When Albany took 1st Friday for its monthly "night out" and Troy called shotgun and claimed the last Friday, the Electric City grabbed the third Friday. Which is why they call it Art Night. (Second Friday is still open. Cohoes, are you listening?) Anyway, the planetarium has free shows tonight, Proctor's has music and there are a bunch of businesses open late on Jay Street. Could be fun.

This weekend you'll have a chance to see 2008's Academy Award nominated short films. (You see clips during the Oscars and they always sound interesting, but they're usually hard to find.) The Spectrum Theater is showing all of the live action AND animated short films nominated this year. Add some mint brownies and popcorn with real butter and you've got yourself a night.

If you like to watch performers sweat, you could head over to Proctor's on Saturday night and put the folks from Mop and Bucket on the spot. In fact, this locally based improve group kind of thrives on the pressure. Their newest show is called Spontaneous Broadway. You invent song titles, they make-up the songs, and the show.

It's Dance Flurry weekend in Saratoga Springs. Don't let the name frighten you if you're more of a wallflower -- there's plenty to watch and listen to. It's a weekend full of music, dancing, performances and workshops. If you don't have tickets yet, you can get them at The Saratoga Springs City Center on Broadway.

And yes, Lyle Lovett and John Hiatt are at The Egg this weekend. No, we don't know how to get tickets. If we did, we'd be going too.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?

If winter ever gets its act together and drops more snow on us, there will be sidewalks to shovel. And shortly after that, Albany will... (more)
