I recently went to my first meetup.com event and had a good time. What I didn't realize is that meetup.com is pretty much one big social circle.

So among the top five groups there are more than 1,800 members, but I'll guarantee that there's a good-sized overlap between, say, the Social Club and the Wine Enthusiasts' Club.

Not to take anything away from the groups, of course — I love the idea of meetup.com. But while it may look like lots of Capital Region members are active meeting others and having a good time, socializing isn't quite as prevalent as one may think.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
