Found: one alternative wedding dress
The good news is AOA friend and bride-to-be Renée has found her alternative to the traditional wedding dress. The bad news is that her local boutique shopping experience was a little less than all that.
Renée's report -- and picture of the dress! -- after the jump.
Here's how Renée's described the dress hunt:
"Saratoga was a bit of a disaster on Saturday afternoon. Every wannabe prom queen and their mother were hitting the boutiques. The dresses were all not my style and would've made me look a bit slutacious (mad props to Mo'nique for that word). I tried on a few cute (and unfortunately short) things at Banana Republic of all places. The staff was even really friendly and helpful. That was the only place visited where I was greeted with a hello and a smile. My general boutique experience in the Capital District was like my Saratoga experience -- with a little more sizing me up when I walked through the door. Except for this one place on Western Avenue in the Price Chopper Plaza near Crossgates. It's
called Cesare and Lili. The gal was super helpful and nice."
Renée finally found "the dress" on the internets -- at Etsy. And, no, it didn't end up being "Kermit green." It's a bubble gum pink chiffon 1950's cocktail dress.
Next up: the hunt for accessories. Renée's looking for orange ballet flats and earrings. Anyone?

If you are looking for orange, I know H&M had a bunch of orange earrings and necklaces. I'm betting they think orange is going to be the new black. I love H&M for being cheapo and I've never had a problem with any of their accessories not standing the test of time. (Actually, I find their clothing to stand up really well too. I am the most gentle of washers though.)

Etsy is a wonderful place for anything funky and unique. I've been shopping on that site for years after a friend turned me on to it. And better yet, it supports artists!

EEEeeeeeek! Fashion! Finally, something I can DO around Albany!!!!
For earrings, Renee, have you ever heard about Sugar Mafia by Angelique? I'm guessing you're the funky fresh girl with a wicked sense of style, based on your searches. This stuff is THE IT. She uses kitschy stuff that just swings as awesome trinkets. Then you always have the option of visiting Elisa Haloran on Lark, or even Dana Rudolph in Troy, who WILL CUSTOMIZE SOMETHING FOR YOU. And the material Dana uses is awesome.
If you don't have shoes found by tomorrow, holy muffins, I WILL.
