Stuff to do this weekend

logo.pngThis weekend you could just pine over your digital photos of fun in the sun from last weekend. Or you could try to make your own sunshine. Here are a few things that might help take the blah out of a rainy weekend.

1st Friday
We know it's hard to believe, but it's 1st Friday in Albany already.

Writer's Institute Classic Film Series
This week at Page Hall, the low budget Japanese horror classic "The Face of Another".

Saratoga Film Forum
This week The Film Forum is showing The Bank Job.

Sgt Dunbar & The Hobo Banned
One of our new local favorites is playing downstairs at Valentines on Saturday night. Also playing will be Wye Oak from Baltimore. Want to check them out first? You can stream their new album "If Children" at mergerecords.com. $5

Learn about wine
The first in a series of May wine workshops with expert Kathleen Lisson. Tonight's class focuses on ordering wine in a restaurant. $5

Albany History Fair
The fair includes history tours, exhibits, music and hands on stuff for kids. Noon to 4 at the Albany Heritage Area Visitor's Center in Quakenbush Square. The walking tour with Albany's city historian looks interesting.

Saratoga Farmers Market

The Saratoga Farmers Market moves outdoors this week. Bring a sweater.

What are you doing this weekend?

There is also an art show featuring work from a local mixed media artist Janet Tanguay at the Harmony House Marketplace in Cohoes tonight from 5 - 7 p.m. on Remsen Street. Knowing the ladies who run the market the New York wine will be flowing and some delicious New York products will be available.

Could Janet Tanguay be a descendant of Eva Tanguay, the vaudeville-era star whose ghost is said to haunt Cohoes Music Hall???

There's also a big ol garage sale through the Center Square neighborhood tomorrow from 10 to 5! That includes parts of Hudson Park too!

I totally dig this whole site. Awesome! Don't quit!

Thanks to you I found a really inspiring art exhibit at the gallery at Sage on New Scotland. I encourage people to check it out. It's art student's final projects and some of them are really cool.

Oh yeah! And my boyfriend and I went to the History Fair and it was so cool! Granted we are both history nerds but Ten Broeck Mansion had artisans and free ice cream and huge pickles for $1.50. The visitors center had various tables set up with groups that I didn't know existed. Did you know there is a tour of the Albany's Underground Railroad? We didn't either. I hate to sound cheesy but THANK YOU AllOverAlbany! We had a lovely Sunday that we wouldn't have had if it weren't for your awesome event listing.

Walk for a good cause! Children's Mental Health Day is Thursday and on Friday, May 9th there will be a walk to help bring awareness to Children's mental health. It will be held at the Crossings in Colonie - Registration starts at 4:30. Bring your friends and family - help put an end to the stigma of mental illness. Sponsored by Families Together in Albany and the Albany County Children's Mental Health System of Care. Questions? Call 432-0333 ext.23

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

What's All Over Albany?

All Over Albany is for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. In other words, it's for you. It's kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who can help you find out what's up. Oh, and our friends call us AOA.
