Open Book New York
The state comptroller's office launched a web site today that, in the comptroller's (or his PR person's) words, is "opening the doors and opening the books" on state spending. What's that mean? Now you can search through all the state's contracts going back 10 years, or see how a state agency spends its money. So, you can see that the Governor's office dropped almost $22k on a company called Black Sheep Studios for, as far as we can tell, event planning. Or maybe you'd like to know that the Division of the Lottery spent more than $285k on travel during the last fiscal year.
