Now we know

southwest jet

What did we learn about Southwest and Albany this week?

In the course of cranking out AOA each week, we come across a bunch of interesting little facts and tidbits (mmm, tidbits) that make us think, "Huh... didn't know that."

So, we figured we'd scrape the pan at the end of the week to collect all these little informational morsels. Here are a few we found...

+ The average 40-foot CDTA bus gets 3.8 mpg. The newer hybrid buses get about 4.8 mpg. [TU]

+ You can make more than $100,000 a year as a Schenectady cop (with overtime). Officers in Colonie and Bethlehem average about $80,000 a year. [TU]

+ The Round Lake Auditorium has a "jewel" of a pipe organ that's more than 150 years old. [DG]

+ It's actually against the law in Albany to plant campaign signs on grass medians, along on-ramps or in any other public space. [AOA]

+ UAlbany nanotech emperor Alain Kaloyeros is the SUNY system's highest paid employee at $675,800 a year. [TU]

+ Southwest carries more passengers out of ALB than any other airline. About 38 percent of people flying out hop a Southwest jet. [DG]

+ The predecessor to American Airlines was the first airline to offer service to/from Albany. Its first flight was in 1929. [DG]

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
