Carmen's without Carmen

Carmen's restaurant exterior

Now we're hungry for sauteed plantains.

We stopped by Carmen's in South Troy the other day for a cubano and found out that Carmen Gonzalez has stepped back from the business. Randy Mellentine, who had been working with Carmen, has taken over operation of the restaurant.

The menu seems to have changed a little bit, but it still includes favorites such as the cubano, the fritas cubanas (mini Cuban burgers), and empanadas. The hours are changing, too. Starting tomorrow, August 6, Carmen's will be open for dinner Wednesday through Sunday.

On our visit, we noticed that one thing hadn't changed, though: it's still a comfortable place with friendly people.

Here's the cubano we had:

Here's a pdf of the menu we picked up.

Interviewing famous football players... reviewing tasty food... tough gig you guys have here. Maybe I should start a blog called "All Over My House" where I post about what 's in my fridge and what time the mail was delivered. Wait no, on second thought, that blog would suck and nobody would read it.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
