Stuff to do this weekend

Floating by a city near you

Hey, you -- watching the Olympics. It's the weekend. It's summer. Get out and do something. You can TiVo beach volleyball and watch it later.

Looking for a few ideas? Here you go...

Ella on the roof

If the rain holds off, there's a free concert on the roof of Skidmore's Tang Museum tonight. Jazz artists Sonny and Perley pay tribute to Ella Fitzgerald as part of The Tang's "Upbeat on the Roof" series. If it rains the show moves inside to the Payne room.

Boy, boy. Crazy boy

This weekend is your last chance to check out West Side Story at Park Playhouse. The weather gods haven't been kind to this cast, so if it isn't raining, you may want to stake out a spot early.

Antiquing in Saratoga

This weekend is the 38th annual antique show and sale at The Canfield Casino in Congress Park. Antique dealers come from around the country, so if antiquing is your thing, this could be cool. Admission is $7. Proceeds benefit the historic building and museum.

The Swimming Cities of Switchback Sea

Yeah, we said "what?" too. But it looks like it has potential. As far as we can tell they're boats, designed by an artist and made out of scrap. They're making a voyage down the Hudson from Troy to New York Harbor. Maybe this will help explain it better. You can check it out tonight from Riverfront Park in Troy and Saturday night from Albany's Corning Preserve.

I don't care if it's raining, I want ice cream!

Sure, it's going to rain a little this weekend, but nothing takes the damp out of a wet weekend like ice cream. What kind and where? Take the Capital Region ice cream tour!

What's your plan? Share, please.

After all my moaning and groaning about the lack of bus service in '07 to the Altamont Fair - and the fact that buses are rolling into Altamont in a different, yet still accessible form this year, I think I better make my way to the fair. Probably taking a bus there in the early afternoon on Saturday.

So... if anyone realizes that your Capital Region summer would be more fulfilling with a dose of Altamont mud on your shoes, and you want to give our transit system a whirl...send me an email via the Qualities of Life in Albany.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

What's All Over Albany?

All Over Albany is for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. In other words, it's for you. It's kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who can help you find out what's up. Oh, and our friends call us AOA.
