We're digging Erik Laffer's "Cartography Series," which opens at the Clement Art Gallery today in Troy.
As you might expect from the name, the pieces are inspired by maps. Here's a clip from Erik's artist statement:
My goal with the Cartography paintings is to, as J.B. Harley writes, "redescribe the world," or at least the small world of Erik Laffer. And just as there is a language of mapmaking, there is style and body of symbols in my paintings that define the landscape of each work and identify my struggle to understand self, family, home, and culture: boats, clocks, buildings, bridges, anatomy, arrows, and, among many others, lines, color, and texture.
There's a reception tonight from 6-9 at Clement. And the gallery will be open tomorrow evening for Troy Night Out.

I'm pretty sure this show was at the Amrose + Sable gallery in Albany not so long ago. Definitely "diggable"...

Oh wow, that is beautiful. Any idea how big the pieces are and how much they cost (just a range)?

@celinabean: It looks like most of the pieces are about 36" x 36".

@celinabean: I think they are a bit pricey, in the $1,000 up range.
I knew Erik through some friends in high school and ran into him a few weeks ago at another gallery. He's super adorable and friendly so by all means confirm cost with him. I don't want people getting the wrong impression about price if I'm not correct.
Btw, I love your blog and how you introduce your readers to food and share your life.
