Night golfing at Hiawatha Trails

Glowing_golf_ball.jpgNow normally we wouldn't even consider swinging big clubs around groups of people in the dark, but this is something different. Tomorrow night Hiawatha Trails Golf Course in Guilderland is open late for night golfing. Golf? At night? How do you see the ball?

Owner Geoff Van Epps says they line the greens, tees and pins with glow sticks and use special Night Flyer glow in the dark golf balls.

"These are the 3rd generation of light up golf ball. The first generation had a glow stick in it. The second generation was plastic--and it was like hitting a rock. These new ones are real golf balls that light up when you hit them and stay lit for 9 minutes or as long as you keep hitting them"

Not a golfer? Van Epps says some folks just come hang out in the clubhouse and watch. "The balls come in all different colors, so it's really fun to watch these colors flying around he course at night."

Here's what it looks like.

The course opens at 8 for night golf, and $20 gets you an LED ball and 18 holes (only 9 holes on the course are lit, so you'll have to play the front 9 twice.)

(Thanks John)

Rrrrrrriiight :) I'm a little dubious about the experience :)

Mini-golf in the dark: you bet. Welcome to Hoffman's Playland miniature golf in Latham, NY. Indoor glow-in-the-dark course.
I have photos (shocking, I know):

It's actually fun.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
