The Chocolate Gecko's over here now

Chocolate Gecko stars
By Jessica Pasko

A few folks we know went looking for Albany's Chocolate Gecko at its old Delaware Ave location and were sent into a chocoholic tailspin when they realized it was closed.

Step away from the Hershey bar, the Gecko is still open -- it just moved to a new location on Colvin Avenue this past summer.

It's a blink-and-you'll-miss-it kind of place on the outside, except for the big green gecko on the sign out front. But once you're inside... well, think Chocolat.

Pretty much everything at The Gecko is made on the premises, using all-natural ingredients.

Here are a few things to try if you stop by:

Chocolate Gecko buddhaChai Buddha truffles
They're a signature Gecko treat. These full-bellied Buddha buddies come in dark or milk chocolate, and they're filled with a vanilla chai infused chocolate ganache. They're a little creamy, a little spicy. They're also brushed with edible gold dust.

Habanero-infused truffles
These truffles truffles are another fav. The heat of the chile is great with the sweetness of the chocolate.

Komodo Crunch
The crunch in this butter toffee comes from toasted pecans and almond pieces. Terra Stratton, who bought the business with a couple of co-owners last year, has said she was addicted to this stuff even before she bought the place.

While at the old location on Delaware Ave. grab a bouquet at Laurel's Flower Shop which is now in that space. Hey fellas, flowers go great with chocolate.

I think my goal for the day should be to head on over there and give their chocolate a try. This new goal will replace the old goal, which was to kill time by posting stupid comments on AOA. Check and check!

Pantaloons, please stay away from the chocolate if it means that you will give up your witty banter. I look forward to both your and Barold's comments on a daily basis!

Margie, I have three words for you: You Rock.

HOT!!!! Pepper-infused Komodo Crunch, I'm coming for you baby!! Hang on!! :) (they still make that, right?)

totally visiting soon....

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?

If winter ever gets its act together and drops more snow on us, there will be sidewalks to shovel. And shortly after that, Albany will... (more)
