Parade coverage

Remember all the hubub about the Albany High after-school throwdowns along Quail St last week? It seems the APD has had enough of that. As we passed the intersection of Quail and Clinton this afternoon around 3:30 there was a stream of students -- and seven APD cars watching them.

No pictures? Cheap.

Hmmm....Let's do the math shall we?

At least 7 officers

At least 2 hours

At least $25/hour loaded cost per officer average

That's at least $350 of your tax dollars that went to ensuring discipline because someone's parents and school fell down on the discipline job.

Remember Kent State!

Can you explain what Kent State and Albany High have in common? I think your probably referring to the May 4 massacre but I don't understand how that relates to Albany High's problem.

Nothing happens in a vacuum, Komradebob. And those cops would have been on the beat anyway. If we're going to hold parents accountable, we also have to look at the circumstances surrounding the parental failures. It's no surprise these kids were walking home towards Arbor Hill- the poorest section of town. My guess is that when you're trying to raise a family in poverty, you're not going to have a lot of time to plan after school enrichment activities for your teenager.

Failure on many levels. Not just overstretched teachers & parents.

And if you keep questioning me, I will grab your arm and push it into your leg and repeatedly demand that you "stop hitting yourself".

I think you made an extremely good point Pantaloons...peppered with a good quip of humor. Just the way a point should be made.

The Scoop

Albany tightened its rules for shoveling snowy sidewalks last winter -- so how'd that work out?
