Vigil for U-Albany student detained in Iran
Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad will be in NYC next week, and Physicians for Human Rights will use the visit to call attention to the plight of a U-Albany student and his brother who have been charged with plotting a "velvet revolution" in Iran.
Kamiar and Arash Alaei are internationally respected HIV/AIDS physicians who have been described as heroes in their field. Kamiar is a doctoral student at U- Albany's school of public health who applied for funding to do AIDS research locally.
The brothers went home for a visit this summer and have been held by Iranian authorities ever since. Physicians for Human Rights will hold a vigil for the brothers outside the Iranian Embassy on September 24th from Noon to 2PM. If you're interested in joining them, you can find more info on their Facebook page.
