Let's get ready to rummage!

By Amy Brozio-Andrews

This weekend is the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Albany's fall rummage sale: clothing for adults and kids, holiday decorations, bed linens, towels, and table linens. Sale dates and times are Friday, Oct. 3 from 9 am to 6 pm and Saturday, Oct. 4 from 9 am to 3 pm.

It helps to do a little pre-game planning for this kind of sale. Here are a few things to keep in mind...

+ To make the most of a rummage sale, make sure you have time to, well, rummage a bit.

+ Always try stuff on, because even though the tag says size 8 the cut may be closer to a 6.

+ Look over seams, make sure all the buttons are there and snug, and that zippers work.

+ Make sure there are no stains or holes; stand in natural light if you can.

+ It's also a good idea to bring a friend who will give it to you straight about whether or not something works for you; there may not be a mirror around when you need one.

To get the best selection, you have to show up at the beginning of a rummage sale. But if you're looking negotiate deal, you might have a better chance at the end of the sale, since whatever isn't sold may end up being tossed.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
