Dexter Filkins at UAlbany

Dexter FilkinsWar correspondent Dexter Filkins will be at UAlbany Thursday night to discuss The Forever War, his book about Iraq.

If you've read his stuff in NYT, you know this guy is seriously good reporter -- and a hell of a writer. In 2004 he reported from the middle of Fallujah in 2004 as US Marines scraped to win the city block by block. His reporting has been called "courageous, at times even foolhardy." Filkins recently returned to Iraq and wrote that he was amazed by the fragile calm that seems to have settled in. (Here he is on Charlie Rose recently.)

Filkins's reading is part of the New York Writers Institute Series. It starts at 8 pm in the recital hall in the performing arts center on UAlbany's uptown campus. It's free.

The Scoop

For a decade All Over Albany was a place for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. It was kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who could help you find out what's up. AOA stopped publishing at the end of 2018.
