Jackbitten
Steve Barnes reports that the Jackbit and Joltz walkabout is permanent. The restaurant's space there just below the Lark Street sidewalk is pretty cool -- you have to figure someone will be looking to snap it up. (Earlier on AOA: Down under Lark Street.)

My vote: A Lark Street extension of the Honest Weight Food Co-op!

My vote: a bookstore; the co-op is not *that* far :)

A bookstore? Ha that is really amusing.
Some of you know of which I speak...... oh.. I wax and wane nostalgic... .... light music, poetry. 1st 1st friday.. foreign paper backs and the occasional great find..
4 of the best most decent owners anyone can hope to meet...
and winner of numerous window awards.. well one at least...
and before that, the great learned ladies of the Bryn Mawr College. Dedicated to education... social activism and volunteerism...
A bookstore:. probably swimming against a tide of digitalization. a tsunami perhaps. In the done that been there category...
My experience riddled vote would go to a green grocery or natural food store the likes that Mitch used to run.. old timey people would remember that.
La Cantina, while that was a sweet restaurant is likely out for all the condo reasons..
What Lark St. really needs is not another bar or place to eat, it is a grocery..

I'm with Sandor; a Lark St. extension of the co-op (or similar enterprise) would be great. Bookstores are getting hit *hard* lately; Borders/Barnes & Noble are seriously feeling it, and anyway, there's already a little used bookstore on Dove & Hudson.
Just my two cents...

I think Lark St. would thrive as the Red Light District of Albany. We could even bring Spitzer back to head up that committee.

Kim: I know there was a bookstore where Jackbit used to be. I'm not talking that kind of bookstore, which we have on Dove, but a place where you can find... "newer" books, magazines, maybe comics, etc. And besides the convenience, I think people talk and socialize more while fishing for books than while carrying cabbages.

Sushi.
That square footage needs to be a sushi joint. This should work for the tenants too, since sushi places aren't very noisome. Well, good ones aren't.
Yes, I used noisome. You got a problem with that?

What Lark street really needs is for some out-of-towner venture capitalist to come in with some get-rich franchising scheme and open up a tacky theme restaurant with elaborate adornments, kitschy dish names, and mediocre food!
Or another head shop; there just arn't enough places on Lark Street to get whip-its.

i've always found it completely odd that there's nowhere in center square to buy the New Yorker. Thank goodness for Coulson's on Broadway, which has one of the most amazing periodical sections I've seen in the area outside of say, Borders or B&N.

How 'bout a Starbucks?

Hmm... An upscale grocery...A deli/butcher...A place to eat/be social... Sounds like Cardona's should move in here!

JJ, have you been reading my email? Lola and I were just talking about and mentioning Cardona's. Being able to get good deli meats and subs/sandwiches on lark would be awesome. And now I'm going to go change my password.

There's now a For Sale sign in the window.
