UAlbany public health student sentenced in Iran
The The UAlbany School of Public Health student and his brother accused of plotting a "velvet revolution" in Iran have been convicted.
AIDS researchers Kamiar and Arash Alaei were convicted of "communicating with an enemy state" and additional secret charges. They are expected to be sentenced tomorrow. Kamiar Alaei is a doctoral student at UAlbany and was expected to return to school in the fall. The brothers were arrested six months ago on a visit home to Iran. Physicians for Human Rights says the charges are illegitimate and has called for their immediate release.
A Facebook Group started by PHR and colleagues of Kamiar and Arash is calling for people to help. They're trying to get as many people as possible to contact the Iranian mission to the UN to show Iran that the world is watching.
Anyone who wants to help can:
- Call the Iranian Mission to the UN at +1-212-687-2020 in New York and urge Iran to release the Alaeis immediately. Here are some talking points from PHR.
- Send an email to the Iranian mission by adding your name to PHR's petition. Your message will immediately be sent to the Iranian Mission to the US, but your email address will not be displayed.

The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Wow. Shallow of me, I know, but being a sucker for really, really good looking smart men, I'll be calling the Iranian embassy in the morning.
