A pet befitting a badass president

badgerNow that the Obamas are moving into the White House, the nation turns its attention to a very important topic: what kind of dog will they get?

But whatever breed they pick, it won't be as cool as the pets kept by AOA's favorite president from New York: noted badass Teddy Roosevelt.

Roosevelt had a pet badger named Josiah.* And, yes, he was a spirited little guy (the badger, not Roosevelt -- though we understand he could get worked up, too.)

The Roosevelt family apparently kept quite the menagerie at the White House, including dogs, cats, horses, guinea pigs, and a bear cub.

* Yes, we realize this is kind of crazy. And, no, we don't think you should get one. In fact, if one of our neighbors here in Albany got a badger, we would probably have to call that person "Crazy Badger Guy."

I'm afraid to say one of your neighbor across the street (me), had 2 raccoons last year. Un-invited. And pervs. They better not come back this Spring, goddamnit.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

What's All Over Albany?

All Over Albany is for interested and interesting people in New York's Capital Region. In other words, it's for you. It's kind of like having a smart, savvy friend who can help you find out what's up. Oh, and our friends call us AOA.
