What's up in the Neighborhood

The NeighborhoodAmong the topics in this most recent spin around the Capital Region's online neighborhood: snow days, delicate questions, recycling, discounts, psychics, gelato, duck and Bobby McFerrin.

We get the feeling Kim has better snow days than we do.

Bob at (on?) Planet Albany wonders if he'd ever have the, um, guts to ask Kirsten Gillibrand a delicate question about her family.

Naomi got together information about where you can recycle old electronics.

Kristi noticed that she seems to be getting fewer Bed, Bath Beyond discount cards in the mail. She called the company, but maybe she should have asked the tanning psychic.

TQL reports the $1 gelato at Crisan is on hiatus! Ack!

If you get the Peking duck at CCK, apparently you have to order it "the way Celina likes it."

Tweet of the week, from @skfl: "'picking up a humidifier for bobby mcferrin' is probably one of the strangest tasks i have done for my job (though not THE strangest)."

RE: Crisan, they still have quarts of gelato available. Though only two or three flavors per week. But they do have soup for the winter.

I'm not saying that you have to order it that way. It is just that they may serve it many different ways. I'm not sure because we always call, so I've never actually looked to see if it is on the menu. (The best parts of which are all in Chinese anyway.) And I don't know the Chinese for "I want the little buns and scallions."

like i said, that was odd, but i do not think it is the oddest thing i have ever had to do for my job.

and in mcferrin's defense, it is tough to full-on rock with dry skin. for real.

@ Erik... soup for the winter sounds nice indeed, but soup and gelato are not in the same food group. This is a miserable Albany winter. CDTA's fares are going up. I'm bummed and Crisan gelato makes me happy. Besides, neither my waistline nor my wallet can afford a whole quart of gelato (There's a rule in my house -- no ice cream allowed in the freezer. If you put it in the freezer, you have to hide it from me. Period.)Honestly, I think Crisan would sell more gelato if they went back to the scoops. Scoops. Scoops. Bring us scoops. Now. We need them.

I was sadden by the lack of gelato, but you had me at soups, erik! It's midwinter and soup is essential this time of year. There's plenty of pastries to have as dessert. Soup and strudel!

Well I don't know if this helps, but the Daily Grind across the street has KILLER pulled pork these days. Great comfort food.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
