Brian Patneaude

Brian Patneaude

That's Brian. And his saxophone.

patneaude riverviewLocal jazz saxophonist Brian Patneaude recently released an album called Riverview. And it's getting great reviews:

+ All About Jazz: "Patneaude's voice is imbued with strength, melodicism and that certain New York state of mind"

+ Jazz Review: "Good things are emanating from upstate New York as the region's prominent saxophonist/composer Brian Patneaude delivers the goods in rather resplendent, and unhurried fashion on this enticing 2009 effort."

+ Music blog Music and More: "This was a very good modern jazz album, the unique textures of the guitar and organ led to excellent opportunities for potent saxophone soloing and full band improvisation. Any fan of mainstream jazz would enjoy this fine disc."

Riverview is available a bunch of places, including CD Baby and iTunes.

He's playing Tuesday night at Lark Tavern with the Big Soul Ensemble and Sunday night at Justin's.

Brian is an excellent example of what TO do when sculpting a music career out of the very very raw materials that one has to work with around here in the Capital Region. The music is obviously great, (which there is a lot of, looking around at other musicians) but what takes him the extra mile is that he also knows how to work the press, promote, engage people who would like his particular style of jazz, AND promote other people at the same time (see AlbanyJazz.com for Brian's EXTRA-curricular work).

My statement is totally biased, having known Brian for a long time, but I feel strongly that he is one to look to as an example for greatness in traversing this particular landscape.

I mean, come on -- 300+ turnout for his CD release show at the Massry Center? Nice work, Brian.
