Sgt Dunbar highlighted on NPR

All things considered, they're pretty great.

Check it out: Sgt Dunbar and the Hobo Banned was featured on this afternoon's All Things Considered as part of a SXSW preview.

NPR's All Songs Considered host Bob Boilen said he listened to samples from all 1,800 artists playing at this year's SXSW -- and decided to highlight three bands, Sgt Dunbar among them. He called the Albany crew's sound "nice and lovely and different."

Sgt Dunbar is scheduled to play a SXSW show this Thursday night. Then they're off on a tour through the South.

A couple of other local bands are also playing SXSW: Phantogram (nee Charlie Everywhere) and Sean Rowe.

Hi there AOA,

Its Sgt Dunbar checking in from a McDonalds in Little Rock, AR where we are about to play with one of our favorite bands the Mathematicians. We are here to report that the south is still awesome but different and that so far tour is going swimmingly.

We want to say a super thank you to everyone in Albany who came out to our tour send off show and sent us off so magnificently. We will miss you all when we are gone and are looking forward to being home again. Wish us the best of luck at SXSW.

See you soon,
The Hobo Banned

Local metalheads Ironweed are also playing a SXSW showcase.

The Hobo Banned are great; I hope they get a good reception @ SXSW. Charlie Everywhere (or whatever they are now) too.

Excellent! They do stand out, and in such a good way. Love em!

i dig the desreved acclaim! get back here safe, you kooks!

Hardest working band in Upstate NY - glad to see the recognition!

So far I've heard that Super 400, Sean Rowe and John Brodeur are also at SXSW. While that would be a fun show around here with all four, if everyone was playing at the same time, I'd still have to go to the Hobo Banned.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
