What's up in the Neighborhood

The NeighborhoodAmong the topics in this most recent spin around the Capital Region's online neighborhood: crowdsourcing, tired knock-offs, low-lights, grr-ing, chicken fingers, bubble tea and the Corning Tower.

Luke has an idea for "crowdsourced" development in downtown Albany.

Bob says you might like the addition to the Saratoga City Center if you admire "tired knock-offs of 50-year-old New Jersey shopping mall architecture." (Also: Bob visited Joe Bruno's old neighborhood in Glens Falls.)

The Albany Student Press blog collected "three low-lights" in recent UAlbany crime.

Kristi says the $3000 heart surgery for the kitten made her go "grrr."

Steve says the guy who got blasted for ordering chicken fingers at Lark Tavern had it coming to him.

Naomi had a "free sale" on Facebook.

FIN was curious about what other things are named "Saratoga."

Kate celebrated Pi day in what looks like tasty style.

Albany Jane made bubble tea at home with supplies from the Asian Food Market on Colvin in Albany.

And Melodic Kim posted a great old picture from the 37th floor of the Corning Tower.

Tweets of the week:

From @tenner: "Pastor: 'Jesus ate with the reprobates and the lowlifes.' Tenor next to me: 'That sounds like one of my dinner parties.'"

From @LisaBarone: "Group of girls next to me are talking about the knitting group they're going to later and their 'access to sheep'. Don't. Want. To know."

From @SiobhanK524: "St. Pat's recap: for those concerned about my lingering sobriety yesterday, I had 1 beer and fell asleep. I'm the worst Irish person ever."

There's a lot more going on around the Neighborhood, check it out. We just added a bunch of new sites. If you know of another great local blog we should include -- or person to follow on Twitter -- post a comment or send us an email: editors |at| alloveralbany |dot| com.

I don't know if this is something AlloverAlbany would be interested in, but I'm currently in training with TEAM In Training for my first triathlon. Our team is raising money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. http://pages.teamintraining.org/uny/memptri09/ccahill

I'm definitely looking for the support of the local community. I have a huge fund raising goal of $5,000 to reach! I don't know if Alloveralbany would ever be interested in doing a blog about TEAM in Training, or perhaps promoting the event that I will be holding at Elda's on Lark to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society? Any support is greatly appreciated!

You can take a look at my blog to see what my progress is like. http://triathelete-in-training.blogspot.com/2009/03/gyms-wowjustwow.html

I agree; the Saratoga City Center plans are hideous.

I suppose my streak of "tweets of the week" had to come to an end at some point. Well guess what. I don't even care man. No, really. I'm so over it, it's like you don't even know. Infact I'm shrugging right now because I already forgot what we're talking about. Move on man. That's my only real advice to you.

re: the panties being pinched at UAlbany

It's good to know obnoxious student "pranks" are the same--this happened to my sophomore year roommate lo, these thirteen years ago. It sucked then, and it sucks now. Reason 2,547 I couldn't wait to move off campus.

What I *really* can't believe is... I'm still here!

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
