Trashy looks at UAlbany's Ecouture

By Jessica Pasko

trash 2.jpg This Friday night at UAlbany models will be strutting down the catwalk in clothing that's just garbage.

Really. It's trash. Actual trash.

In the SUNY Albany Artists Cooperative's green fashion show, "Ecouture: Reuse, Refuse, Refashion" twenty models will be showing off fashions made with reusable, recyclable items including old clothing, paper and plastic trash. The group promises they'll even be accessorizing with purses, shoes and hats also made from discarded materials.

The show is being held in conjunction with artist Jason Middlebrook's installation piece at the University Art Museum, "Live With Less."

DJ Truemaster will be spinning before and during the fashion show, and The Scientific Maps and Beware! the Other Head of Science will also be playing after the event.

There will be demonstrations and workshop demos on how to make ecouture clothing and create stencils from recyclable materials. Local businesses have donated food and door prizes, and The Honest Weight Co-op is providing some of the food. The whole event is free and open to the public.
