A dollar well spent

crisan gelato case

A hard choice.

Crisan's $1 scoop of gelato is back.

We recommend the tiramisu flavor.

That is all.

Hooray!! One scoop chocolate, one scoop coconut, here I come!

Too bad the weather isn't at all matching up with gelato/ice cream season...

yeah right! go for the pistachio!
also, the girl that works there is pretty cute.

If the weather doesn't make you think of gelato (though honesty, everything makes me think of gelato, which can be unfortunate in more... initimate... moments), I highly recommend the double espresso with a scoop of your favorite flavor, as long as that flavor is chocolate.

Not to be a naysayer, but last year right at the end of the season, I ordered a hazelnut gelato. It tasted like bleach. Something was very off. It was only the second time I ordered gelato from Crisan. I will be back, but I will be wary of the bleach flavor.

*jumps up in the air and runs in place for three full seconds before taking off in the general direction of Lark Street*

Now, this is news.

HOORAY!

Is this northern Italian gelato (milk based) or southern Italian gelato (water based)?

I was thinking about going for a run after work and then I saw this. Thanks a lot guys...

I can think of a few people I would like to see ingest bleach. I'll definitely remember this info in the future.

does anyone know if Crisan makes their gelato completely from scratch? or do they use some sort of premade mix? I was under the impression it came from a mix, but perhaps I'm wrong. personally, i think i prefer A Cone of Your Own gelato (despite its pricey-ness).

I love the passion fruit! OOH IT’S SO GOOD!!

curious: I don't know if anyone in the area makes their own gelato (well, except me, but that's what comes with having the ice cream bowl for one's KitchenAid). I would wager a small sum that they all come prepacked from some distributor.

I have never been there. I should make it a point to go. I still haven't had my spring time ice cream/gelato fix! Can you believe that!?!

@B - I'm quite sure Aromi d'Italia on the corner of 155 and Western makes their own. I believe the ingredients come from Italy.

Good to know charley! I'll have to check it out!

Thanks for the heads up - we went there last night. We had a lovely urban evening in the 'hood. Bongiorno's (sp?) on the patio, then walked up for gelato, then talked to neighbors on stoops on the way home. Yeah nice weather!

Unfortunately A Cone of Our Own went out of business a few months ago.

when i was in crisan today i noticed that new hours have been posted...new closing times listed as 8:30PM and, maybe 9 something or other...i cant remember exactly.

what?? no more 9:58PM sprints up the street to get my sugar fix on hot summer nights, dashing through the door just before the clock ticks 10? darnnn.

that's ok. my love for crisan goes on and on....

For those who are curious: Yes, Crisan makes their own gelato.

According to Crisan's website, they make their gelato "from scratch using Meadow Brook dairy products." Had their gelato for the first time tonight, pistachio, it was lovely.

Also, factor in inflation. I believe the single scoop is $2 now. Still worth it.

Sadly, inflation has affected even our beloved gelato. It's $2 per scoop now.

P.S. I highly recommend a scoop of the chocolate, hazelnut or honey (which they almost never have, and it's insanely good) in their espresso. So much sugar. So much caffeine. So goddamn good.
