Pop Rocks cocktail at dp

Mikey likes it!

If popular retro-themed activities like adult kickball or spelling bees in the bars just aren't doing it for you -- or if you just want a drink to compliment them -- try the pop rocks cocktail at dp.

This sweet drink is a slightly more sophisticated way to relive your childhood.

Slightly.

Now normally I don't go for the super fruity drinks (my standard libation is an extra dirty martini,) but really, who can resist a drink that's rimmed with pink Pop Rocks? Not me at least.

It's a combination of raspberry-orange vodka, Ketel One Citroen, peach schnapps, cranberry juice, pineapple juice and sour mix -- and it's perfectly pink. The Pop Rocks were already snapping, crackling and popping by the time the glass reached my table.

If you're looking for a candy adorned treat that doesn't explode in your mouth when you drink their cocktail menu also includes a goofily-named 'Sex in the City-tini," which comes garnished with a blow pop.

Yeah, at $11 the Pop Rocks Martini is a little steep, but fortunately it's fairly potent so one may do the trick. And sure, it's an urban legend, but just to be on the safe side, you might not want to follow this up with a Pepsi chaser.

I was so disgusted after seeing this sticky candy concoction, that I was going to write in and suggest that their cocktail menu is a disgrace to an otherwise upstanding restaurant.

But then I checked out their full cocktail menu.

They are making Aviation cocktails with Creme de Viollete! In Albany? That is truly awesome. Officially, this should be the lead story.

I am willing to forgive their trespasses, and that is no small thing. Hopefully when I am at the bar enjoying my proper Aviation, it will not be sullied by a stray flying pop-rock.

I'll be sending a link to this story to the still-living advertising exec "Mikey," since I'm sure he never gets forwarded stories like this. I love being the fly in the ointment!
