The auto clinic/ car wash/ dog wash

So it turns out it's hard to get a good picture of a dog getting a bath.

"Hmm... should I get the oil changed, wash the car or bathe the dog?"

Well, that's one dilemma you'll never have to struggle with again. Now you can do them all at once at the auto clinic/car wash/dog wash in Menands.

Yes, the auto clinic/car wash/dog wash.

It made sense to me, considering my dirty dog is often to blame for my dirty car. And if you've got a dog bigger than say, a Chihuahua or a pug, then you know what a pain trying to bathe them at home in the tub can be.

This week, the pooch was starting to smell a bit from all that rolling in the park so I decided to check it out.

Juno at Pet spaw 3.jpgIt's fairly no frills, but it will get the job done. Be warned though, even though there's a dryer, you probably will want to bring towels. The wash is now open 24 hours, so if you decided you need to wash your dog at, say, 3 a.m. there's nothing stopping you.

The wash is automated, with options for regular shampoo, disinfectant shampoo and conditioner. Five dollars gets you 8 minutes, which made me a bit pressed for time considering my 130-pound dog has a lot of surface area.

One thing I found a little frustrating is that there are no scrubbies available. To really get a dog clean, you need to really work the shampoo in. I was also disappointed to find that the doggy breath fresheners and pads for cleaning ears that were advertised on their website were nowhere to be found.

I did, however, think it was cute that the tub was called the "pet spaw." Also, they apparently donate 10 percent of the proceeds from the dog wash to the local humane society.

Honestly, even though this was much cheaper than my regular place, Shampoodle in Delmar, I probably won't be making this a regular stop. There's something much more appealing about an indoor doggy wash where they provide you with multiple cleansers, smocks, towels and doggy cologne.

That said, the dog wash in Menands is definitely convenient. I could see it being great on a hot summer day when your dog rolls in, say, skunk stench. Just be sure to wear old clothing - somehow cleaning a dog always leaves me a filthy mess.

Junot is so sexy!

This past weekend I was at a dog wash benefit that was held at a pet daycare next door to a car wash. I was cracking up over my pug-mix getting the same scrub-down as the Altima behind her. Who knew there were places that actually catered to both?

And I agree with capow-- Junot is one sexy beast.

Junot wants you to know that he's actually far more handsome in real-life than he is in these pictures.

I like how in the second pic, Junot's totally singing in the shower. I'm going to pretend the song is "Backstreet's Back" by The Backstreet Boys.

You map is showing Grafton Lakes State Park. Is it just me?

Aww, Junot's famous!

Aww, I love Junot!

There's one of those up in Glens Falls, where my mother lives, and she's been talking about taking her dog, Max. Max is not *quite* as large as Junot, but he's pretty big and VERY hairy, so something like this would really save her a lot of money on grooming.
