The impromptu roller derby name contest

hellions logoWe held an impromptu competition on Twitter Friday afternoon to see who could come up with the best roller derby name.* The winner got two tickets to this past weekend's Hellions of Troy bout, which the Hellions won 165-143.

There were a lot of great entries...

@JAdamsRD: Jenn O'Side

@marilyth: Wendy Wrecker or Verna Valkarie

@SiobhanK524: Tyra Spanks as coach of America's Next Top Maulers

@MissionInc: Fund Racer

@briannaleclair: Connie Lingus

@StickFigureMan: Bullseye Betty, after Betty Barnette.

@bkraus: Orgazmo

@ps_warrencounty: Tequila Mockingbird

@BeanLavigne: Bloody Mary or Seymore Titsout

@DakotaLatham: Dakota T-Bone

@BitchesBruze: Professor Paintrix

@7atenine: Veruc Assault

And the winner...

@KevinMarshall: Jack Thwackeneny (also suggested: Matthew McBombsaway and Edwards James Awful)

Thanks to everyone who played along!

*Yes, we're sorry we didn't tell you. It was a spur of the moment thing.

Also, just so you know: AOA is a media sponsor of the Hellions. We're also fans of the Albany All Stars.

Also "borrowed" from Orgazmo's cast: Jizzmaster Zero, Choda Boy, Maxxx Orbison...

Some really great names here! You all would make such great roller girls and guys. I especially like Jack Thwackeneny because one of our bench coaches, Doc Browne, is currently wracking his brain for the perfect politico-inspired derby name.
Bloody Mary and Varuc Assault are already derby names in use. So is Tequila Mockingbird.

2 more:

Barb Dwire

Dee Hydrate

You can actually check the international rollerderby name roster for more, or to see if anyone has already come up with a name. The general rule is, the better the name, the more likely it is someone's taken it.

A quick scan shows Tyra Spanks and Connie Lingus, along with the ones Beirut mentioned. These were all cute though.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
