Bombed

Matt Baumgartner -- the owner of Bombers and Wolff's -- has blogged about the rough start at the new Bombers in Schenectady -- or, as he describes it: "our opening week was pretty much a disaster." He says that a woman actually threw a burrito at his head.

I read Matt's first post and I was really impressed with how candid he was. I'm not a huge fan of Bombers but I will actually visit the Schenectady location because I want to support someone who seems to take a genuine interest in their business, customers and community.

Matt should be commended for doing what so few people our age are willing to do in a private setting, let alone a public one. Not only did he take responsibility for the failure of the opening, he went further to explain why and how it was his responsibility.

That last part is important. Too often I hear people say they "take full responsibility" when something goes wrong, but then they'll fire off one excuse after another so that it ends up being "well, it's not my fault, but I'll say it is anyway for the sake of making themselves out to be an unselfish martyr."

So good on you, Matt, and good luck with the new location.

Bombers is fun and has a cool atmosphere, great bar and drinks. The burritos (and all the tex-mex items for that matter) are unfortunately so bland and average.

On the other side of the spectrum, there's Bros Tacos. Really, really great food, but basically take-out only.

If only we could combine the two.

Kids these days don't have any respect for their elders. When I threw that free burrito at Mr. Baumgartner, he wasn't supposed to keep it. I want it back. I'd shake my stick at him if my ungrateful dog hadn't stolen it from me.

I hate the Capital Region. People are such a@#holes.

Matt is a complete class act, he's been great with us over the years with donations for the Speedo Sprint, hes constantly doing his part to help the neighborhoods as well as being completely approachable. I've heard great things from the folks I know that have been to the new location, I'm sure its just a matter of time before its rockin' like the Lark St location and the Biergarten
