What's up in the Neighborhood

The NeighborhoodAmong the topics in this most recent spin around the Capital Region's online neighborhood: calories, bathrooms, wrenches, melon, friendly service, urban fishing, emotional clothing, reckless scooters and Yanni.

Steve says the proposed calorie-counts-on-menus law is good in theory -- but he worries about small restaurants.

Rob wonders what we could be doing if we weren't... uh... spending so much time online.

Matt says women are the worst bathroom offenders. (By the way: his new blog has had good stuff so far -- check it out.)

Lydia says her wrench is math.

Albany Jane scored some tasty fruit from the Veggie Mobile.

Robert got a very warm reception at Phoenicians. (We were also there recently and can report the service is very friendly.)

Fun in Saratoga highlighted a newly-constructed house that doesn't "leave you feeling empty."

Leigh went urban fishing at the Delaware Ave Price Chopper.

Naomi got some suggestions on what to do with a dress she describes as "emotional clothing."

Kristi had a run-in with a "reckless HoveRounder."

Kate took some pictures at last weekend's Albany All Stars bout.

And KiMelodic posted some really beautiful pictures taken from the Corning Tower.

Tweets of the week

From @Litt1eMinx: "FYI: If you are in a crowd of 300+ people at a bar before a rock concert and you ask for a frozen DAIQUIRI we will openly ridicule you."

From @QuitoHumenik: "No alcohol allowed at my HS Reunion?! That is insanity. Life is not complete until I tell everyone I love them and puke on their shoes."

From @SummerWilber: "asked a big, pretty horsey for a ride home last night. He said "no" on account of the large cop on his back."

From @patrickdodson: "I want to cry. Dunno if its yanni or the 5.50 i just spent on a coors light"

From @MikeyRoach: "Just saw photographer with a hemp hand strap on his camera. Apparently sustainability applies to your $2,000 DSLR now too."

From @rmadeo: "Happy Birthday David Paterson. He's 55 today ---that's about the same number of votes he'll get if he runs for Governor."

There's a lot more going on around the Neighborhood, check it out. If you know of another great local blog we should include -- or person to follow on Twitter -- post a comment or send us an email: editors |at| alloveralbany |dot| com.

I've been hit on two separate occasions by HoveRound-type scooters, and I can attest, it hurts like hell. The real kicker is that as the scooter gets older, the brakes don't work as well and they glide a bit after you ease up. So the person could try to stop, but the thing will keep going, and they'll actually CLIMB UP your leg. I almost had to get my own scooter after that.

I made tweets of the week! PSYCHED

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
