Chez Sophie closing

Owners Paul Parker and Cheryl Clark are moving to France. Steve has more details. The last day at the Saratoga restaurant will be September 30. (Thanks, @radnauseum)

Interesting. I quote: "To help support [...] restore the castle, we plan to sell micro-leases to customers around the world. The micro-leases of small plots of vines will produce a case of wine a year for three years, which the subscribers can [...] have shipped to them. The micro-lease will also give subscribers perennial ownership rights to visit the property, work in the vineyard and participate in the restoration and activities of the castle".

I wish them luck. I know the area well; Chez Sophie is about an hour away from me here, and they are now moving an hour away from my folks in France. This is a beautiful region, but not the most welcoming. I was visiting last month and sampled a few new restaurants, the story remains the same: if you are not local, it may take a long time for locals to pay you a visit and accept your business. I don't get that feeling here in the US. Fortunately there are tourists in summer, but "the economy" tanked the same way. This micro-lease idea is new to me, I'll check them out next year if I'm in the area; 15th houses can be pretty spectacular, especially for people from "new" countries. I'd definitely recommend taking a 2 hours train from Paris and spending a few days near Nimes...

Sad to see one of the premier restaurants in the area shutting its doors.

The scuttlebutt is the owners weren't happy with the contract agreement they had with the hotel.

And in other restaurant related news, Beff's in Delmar is closing, to be replaced by another Irish pub/dinner joint at the same locale.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
