Stuff to do this weekend

"Where's my costume?"

Sure, right now it seems like there's a whole summer's worth of weekends ahead of you -- but how quickly they disappear. This one is looking gorgeous and it's packed with fun stuff.

We're exhausted just looking at this weeks list!

Here are some of our picks for the weekend.

What did we miss?

1st Friday
You can wander shops and galleries all over Albany tonight for 1st Friday. Here's a look at what they've got planned this month.

Wonka Fest
Tonight in Ballston Spa's Wiswall Park you can experience Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory in smell-o-vision. The aromas of chocolate, bubble gum and snozzberries ("who ever heard of a snozzberry?") will waft through downtown Ballston Spa at the appropriate moments in the film. Yeah, we're not sure how that's going to work either, but if it does, it'll be cool. The movie is free, but if you buy a Wonka Bar you could end up with a golden ticket that gets you a $100 gift certificate or savings bond. The movie starts at dark (around 9PM these days). Bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on.

Who's Bad
Tonight at 8, The Ultimate Michael Jackson Tribute Band is back at Revolution Hall. They sound so much like the original it's actually a little creepy. In the good way, of course. $18

Art on Lark
Lark street is closed to traffic all day tomorrow for Art on Lark. Over 100 artists will have booths set up all along Lark. There'll be music from Margan and the Red Lions, The Getdowns, The Foy Brothers and others. Also this year -- a drag show, Project Larkway (with celebrity judge AOA's Jess Pasko) and Lark Idol.

Historic House and Garden Tour
This weekend you can tour homes in the GE Realty Plot -- an historic Schecnectady neighborhood. Back in the early 1900's this neighborhood was meant to be "second to none between NYC and Chicago." Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Saturday and Sunday 1-4

Craft Market
The Tight Knit, "diy indie craft market" debuts Saturday in Monument Square (at the intersection of Broadway and River and bordered by 2nd street.)near the Troy Farmer's Market.

Pugs in Costumes!
We know some folks think it's creepy, but we can't help but laugh at cute little pug dogs all dressed up in costumes. The Albany-Capital District Pug Lovers Group is holding its fifth annual pug costume ball from noon to 4 pm tomorrow at the main pavilion at Cook Park's park in Colonie.

Roller Derby!
The Hellions of Troy are back at it this weekend. Tomorrow night they take on women of Assault City in Troy's Frear Park. Doors open at 6:00. Bout starts at 7. Stick around afterward for the post derby party with music by Bishop. $10 in advance, $12 at the door.

Shear Madness
This murder/mystery/comedy where the audience gets to solve the crime opens this weekend at Capital Rep. Tonight at 8, Saturday at 3 and 7:30, Sunday at 2:30

Flea Markets
Spend a few hours browsing for treasure at a local flea market

Aunt Katie's Attic in Scotia is hosting their annual outdoor flea market this Saturday June 6th from 9am-4pm. If you've been thinking about getting a furry friend, Helping Paws Rescue is holding a pet adoption clinic there too.

The At The Warehouse folks have started an outdoor flea market. It'll be open every weekend this summer, but it debuts on Sunday from 10 to 4.

And then there's Leisure Time in Ravena.

Dining Al Fresco
Looks like the weather will be perfect for a drink or dinner on a local patio.

Ice Cream!
And of course, there's always The Capital Region Ice Cream Tour. Mmmmm. ice creammmm.

Comments

I for one am thrilled for the chance to lose at art again this year! Silly guy who drew fish at the UAG's sidewalk chalk competition is going down this year! Just, probably not by me.

Check out St Anthony's tonight. My friend did all the paintings for Boarded Up and they are amazing.

The First Friday gallery at 40 Broadway will be open all weekend. It's got by far some of the best artist that I've seen at any First Friday.

It's #26 on the UAG list. If you go to one gallery this First Friday, it should 100% be this one.

Please come to a benefit block party at Rotterdam Fire District #2 on Saturday from 2-11pm. This is to benefit 2 local children who are quite ill. There will be food, drinks, games, raffles, and much more.

I second Andrew. Not only do the Contompasis brothers have an awesome place, but tonight's show includes AOA featured artist David Geurin.

ASAP is hosting it's first annual Critter Cruise, as a benefit for Project Drumm (http://crittercruise.moonfruit.com/)

P.S. Come say hi to me at Art on Lark as I do my best Tim Gunn impression.

I hear David Geurin and I am automatically in.

Jess - I can't wait. I'm sure you'll make it work. *squee*

What is the time and location for the Art on Lark runway show?

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
