The GasUp
Tom emailed this week about an event he went to recently in Schoharie called The GasUp:
It was a hoot. It's this wonderful, quirky, off beat gathering of hundreds of people that love, collect, and restore antique gas and steam engines. Absolutely friendliest people, and just tons (literally) of operating, whirring, clankering engine things--tiny engines that pump water, 12-ton steam-powered tractors, a 1938 Con Edison bulldozer, and a huge steam powered crane. Also about 20 (really) old cars (some kept rusty and rough but still working). And one sweet Corvair.
Throughout the day, these guys just turn on their mechanical marvels and cruise through the paths throughout the field grounds grinning ear to ear. One nice gentleman, Eric, started up his 1914 Pierce touring car for my 5-year old son and took us for a mile ride on the dirt roads around the place.
They even have an ice cream stand where the ice cream is turned in the wooden bucket by a steam engine.
The engines will be pumping again both days this weekend (we can't figure out the times from the web site). It's free. Tom says it takes about 30 minutes to get there from Albany (directions).
(Thanks, Tom!)
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

And while you're out there, check out Wellington's, which is just up the hill on Rickard Hill Road.
