My Exit: Lisa Byrne

Lisa Byrne.jpg

Tonight on MyExit-- music from the 518.

Every Monday night our friends at WEXT do this thing called My Exit -- local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. So we thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.

Here's tonight's person:

Who?

Lisa Byrne from Gloversville.

Musical Taste:

I enjoy all types of music and follow several local bands.

3 songs from tonight's MyExit Show:

In the My Exit show, I played songs by several local musicians who are all linked together in a very interesting way.

Elevator Music - Blotto - I started following Blotto (who in a previous incarnation was known as the Star Spangled Washboard Band - "Collector's Item") after I saw them at a show in Capitol Park, in Albany, in the summer of 1983. Their song "Elevator Music" epitomizes how I feel about listening to popular radio stations. "The same songs every hour..." I still follow Blotto and even have a fan website for them . It was at their show in August of 2006, where they mentioned that three of the Blottos are also in another group called the Ramblin Jug Stompers ("Sadie Green"). I've been following the Ramblin Jug Stompers ever since I saw them in September of 2006. What I like best about the music of Blotto and the Ramblin Jug Stompers is that it's so much fun.

The Gospel Plow - The Gospel Train - Michael Eck from the Ramblin Jog Stompers is also part of The Gospel Train. What I like best about the songs by The Gospel Train are that they usually have a message, are soulful, and sometimes even just beautiful.

Ready For The Storm - The Fighting 86's - I met Steve Butler when he performed with Frank Jaklitsch at Caffe Lena. Earlier this year, I found out Steve was playing with a new group, so I visited their MySpace page and fell in love with both of the songs there - "Ready For The Storm" and "Fisherman's Blues."

You can hear Lisa's My Exit show tonight at 8 at 97.7 or at exit977.org. Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.
