Tuesday! Tuesday! Tuesday!

school bus demo race

The school buses get taken to school.

Jessica emailed yesterday about EVE OF DESTRUCTION! at the Lebanon Valley Speedway tonight. Jessica, who went two years ago (this picture seems to capture the experience), says the show is "the greatest annual red-blooded, red-necked event in the Capitol Region":

To quote their website: 1 NIGHT OF EXTREME NON-STOP HEART POUNDING DESTRUCTION AND MAYHEM! WITH SCHOOL BUS RACING, TRAILER RACING, ROLL OVER CONTEST, HUGE DEMOLITION DERBY, UNBELIEVABLE STUNTS AND MUCH MUCH MORE!!!!!!!
And yes, it is as awesome as it sounds. Plus, there is great people watching.

We gotta say: she had us at "school bus racing." The mayhem starts at 7 pm. Tickets are $14.

Lebanon Valley is about 30 minutes from Albany.

"the greatest annual red-blooded, red-necked event in the Capitol Region"

More than the Double-M Western Friday BBQ & Rodeos? I don't know man, that's a pretty powerful claim. I checked out the rodeo as joke a couple of years ago, but found myself having some serious culture shock & hard core respect for the dudes who compete on those bucking broncos. This region is way more diverse than I ever realized.

I was going to go with them last time, but couldn't. :-(

I can't go this time either (teh suck!)

BUT, it does remind me of the truck & tractor pulls they had at the Kansas State Fair (a mile from my house). You could hear the engines revving and the crunch of metal at times. Nothing like summer in small town Kansas!

Huh. That looks just like the lot where I parked my car this morning.

Wait a second...

I went to a demolition derby once in rural Pennsylvania. It was at the county fair. And it was awesome.

Cars catching on fire. Wheels with axles still attached flying out into the audience. Referees with baseball bats smacking cars that misbehaved.

And we have this near Albany? And roller derby?
Someone needs to tell the visitors bureau.

Sadly, I won't be able to make it tonight. But I look forward to bringing the family in the future.

This event, combined with the last presidential election, make me proud to be an American.

Say Something!

We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.
