Where's the love?

From a letter by a Saratoga woman to the Post-Star: "I think they should consider wooing me a little bit, seduce me..." To whom is she referring? The Red Cross.

That's really funny. My first reaction was to think, "Yes, sending this woman flowers and taking her out for a nice dinner is a GREAT way to spend Red Cross resources."

The thing is, I work for the Red Cross, and while I can't speak for Blood Services, I have often heard complaints about the freqency of calls for blood donations. The thing is, if we don't call people all the time, donations drop--we've tried it, and it's true. I know the frequent calls (and the other issues the writer mentions) can be frustrating, but I'd rather be called constantly than get into an accident and arrive at the hospital to find that there's no blood left to save me.

The writer is forgetting that donating blood saves lives. Lots of lives. If she decides not to give blood because her experiences have been that bad, that's her choice, but I'd ask her to remember that the benefit FAR outweighs the frustrations.

wow.

Hey, maybe if the Red Cross gave away copies of the "Twilight" book or the first season of "True Blood" on DVD, she'd give an extra pint or two. Although its sounds like she's donated for so long, she'd probably appreciate a VHS copy of Nosferatu instead.

Amazing. Everyone has such a sense of entitlement these days. Whatever happened to doing it because it saves lives?

I've donated over 13 gallons in my lifetime. Sometimes there are T-shirts, once I got a nice keychain, but there are always cookies. Did she participate in the points for pints program? You can get free things through that too.

I guess he wants dinner and flowers.

Maybe she just needs a date.

Maybe I'm strange - I like it when they call me. They only call when I'm eligible to donate again and if they didn't I'd forget to make an appointment.

Hey baby...care to come over to my place and join me for a pint?

@John (was) in Michigan: when I first read your comment I thought it said "pints for pints program."

Maybe the Red Cross should talk with some pubs about that...
