My Exit: Erik Deyoe
Every Monday night our friends at WEXT do this thing called My Exit -- local listeners get to come into the station and program an hour of music. So we thought it'd be fun to find out a little bit about these people and why they picked the songs on their play list.
Who?
Erik Deyoe from South Bethlehem, New York. I work as the Town Engineer and Deputy Commissioner of Public Works for the Town of Bethlehem.
Musical Taste:
My musical taste is very diverse. I listen to jazz, alternative rock, blues, country, classic rock, hip hop and almost everything in between. Right now, some of my favorite musicians and bands include: Coldplay, Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis, Death Cab for Cutie, the Kamikaze Hearts, and the Guess Who.
A few songs from Erik's My Exit:
Round Midnight (Live) - Thelonious Monk:
Round Midnight is one of my favorite jazz classics. While its been recorded dozens of times, by Monk and others, this live version from his Live at the It Club album is my favorite primarily because of Rouse's perfect tenor sax performance.
Gravedigger - Willie Nelson: I love the rawness and authenticity of Willie's cover of this Dave Matthews Band song.
Philosophy - Ben Folds Five: I'm a huge Ben Folds fan and couldn't put together a My Exit show without including something from him. The guy is simply an amazing pianist and pretty solid on drums, bass and guitar as well - he does it all on one of his solo albums. I love the piano and lyrics in "Philosophy."
Wrong - Depeche Mode: I grew up listening to a lot of 80's and 90's alternative rock, including Depeche Mode among others. My oldest son loves this song and has renamed it "The Dinosaur Song" - he thinks the intro sounds like roaring dinosaurs. When I first put this on my iPod, my son made me play it over and over again in the car and now he tells me when I can and can't dance to it. He's three, he's the boss!
You can hear Erik's My Exit show tonight at 8 at 97.7 or at exit977.org. Here's how to schedule your own My Exit show on WEXT.
Say Something!
We'd really like you to take part in the conversation here at All Over Albany. But we do have a few rules here. Don't worry, they're easy. The first: be kind. The second: treat everyone else with the same respect you'd like to see in return. Cool? Great, post away. Comments are moderated so it might take a little while for your comment to show up. Thanks for being patient.

AOA Rocks! Now, we just need to get AOA to do their own shows!
